Module 16: Diversion from Juvenile Justice System and Use of Law Enforcement

Training Description

This training module will go over the MCR best practice in relation to law enforcement; youth contact with law enforcement and role of trauma; and MCR interface with law enforcement. Participants will discuss how MCR can mitigate risk to divert from use of law enforcement, when possible and collaborate with law enforcement when they are involved.

Learning Objectives

 Participants will:

  • Understand best practices around MCR’s use of law enforcement

  • Appreciate why the use of law enforcement can be detrimental to a youth during times of crisis

  • Familiarize themselves with police practices and culture and how these apply to MCR’s interface with them

  • Develop strategies MCR staff can use to resolve crisis without the use of law enforcement and work collaboratively towards a safe resolution if they are involved

This module will be trained synchronously on Zoom.

  • MCO Call Center Staff/Magellan
